Hungry at Rana Market

A cold, cloudy Islamabad morning called for spicy fried fish, so an excursion to Rana Market’s fish shop was made.

Behind the counter sat the man preparing my meal, his face wrinkled with years of labour, eyes locked on the Aarshia, never once wavering.

Each cut was deliberate, flesh separated from fat with a quiet precision only time could teach.

Wen asked about the blade, he smiled and told me he’d cut himself countless times; once so badly he needed eleven stitches. Yet here he was, still at work. Because someone, somewhere, is always hungry.
